MON

Hi! My name is Mon. I was born in the South of Thailand, close to the border of Malaysia. When I was little, my mom and dad often had to go to work the rice fields and I had to take care of my little sister and make sure my parents could have dinner after a long day of work.

That is how I discovered my passion for cooking. Although it was my task, something I had to do, I didn't mind it at all. I started cooking just by watching my mom from a very young age, and when I was old enough, about 8 years old, I started doing the same.

Besides cooking, I also loved to travel, meet new people and learn English. When I was about 22, I managed to get a job with an international company. For more than 10 years I traveled around the world for my job.

I came to Koh Lanta the first time just like most tourists and fell in love with the island. While still working and traveling lots for the international company, I gradually started longing for a more simple life style again in my home country and with my family.

In 2015 I had the opportunity to open a cooking school and teach Thai cooking. After teaching full time for many years, I have slowly started to take more time off and share the responsibility for the cooking school with an amazing team of talented instructors.

Hi! My name is Tak, you can call me Takkie.

I was born in Uthai Thani province in central Thailand in a small house surrounded by fields. You can basically say I grew up in the middle of nowhere. My family were farmers and lived a simple life while working hard and farming crops of corn, sugar cane, cassava and more.

I was raised by my grandmother who was blind, and when I was only 5 years old, I started cooking by following the instructions of my grandmother who saw me as "her eyes and hands". In my childhood there was no time for fun and recreation. Just hard work; cooking, cleaning, farming,

As soon as I could, I left the tough farm life and moved to Koh Samui, where I lived for many years. At first I was looking to get as far away as I could from my roots. And when I had a chance to experience life in The Netherlands and Portugal for a few years, I grabbed it.

But all these experiences have taught me that there are actually many great things about the local "poor" Thai life I came from. And in some ways I found out we were actually rich; we always had fresh organic food and took time to cook nutritious meals and eat together. With time my love for the Thai way of living a simple life, close to nature with fresh ingredients got stronger again.

I am so happy and blessed that I have a chance to share this love with hundreds of people from around the world.

MODZ

Hi nice to meet you my name is Modz.

I was born and raised in Kanchanaburi province, about 2 hours North-West of Bangkok.

Cooking and food was an essential part of my upbringing as my parents had a streetfood stall. So from a young age I had to help at our family business.

I started with simple things like cooking the rice and omelet and gradually my mom gave me more responsibilities. I remember clearly how I made so many mistakes; no taste, too salty, overcooked. My mom would always taste and give me feedback so I could grow as a chef and learn how to fix these mistakes.

When I became a grown up, I wanted only 2 things: fame and money. I worked as an actor in the entertainment industry for a while. Until one day I knew it, this was not the life I wanted.

I moved to Phi Phi island and started working as a tour guide, tattoo designer and party organizer. But after doing this for almost 17 years, I was longing for a calm life again with less party and more well-being and health.

When Mon asked me to work with him, I felt it was exactly the right time: Combine all my talents of cooking and entertaining. So excited to share all my mom's secrets with you!
